GLENDALE ARENA NAMED BEST NEW MAJOR CONCERT VENUE IN NORTH
AMERICA AT POLLSTAR CONCERT INDUSTRY AWARDS
GLENDALE, AZ —Phoenix Coyotes President and COO Douglas Moss announced
today that Glendale Arena has been selected by Pollstar Magazine as the best
new major concert venue in North America. Glendale Arena received the award Friday
night at the 16th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards in Los Angeles at The
Wiltern LG Theatre. This year's nominations were made by a diverse group of over
125 major agents, managers, promoters and industry professionals. Pollstar is
the leading concert industry publication.
“It’s an honor to win such a prestigious award,” said Moss. “In
one year of operation, we have developed a reputation in the industry as a
state of the art venue that provides first class service to its clients and
customers. We have an incredible venue with excellent sight lines and unbelievable
acoustics. We would like to thank Pollstar for this recognition.”
Glendale Arena is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility located
within the new 223-acre Westgate City Center. Upon build out, Westgate will
feature 6.5 million square feet of retail, residential, restaurant, entertainment,
office and hotel uses. Westgate is one of the real estate industry's most dynamic
projects, incorporating the innovative marriage of sports, entertainment, spectacular
media and urban development.
“Our goal has always been to create the premier sports and entertainment
venue in the Southwest,” said Steve Ellman, Chairman and Governor of
Coyotes Hockey and the Arena Management Group. “After our first year,
we're well on our way.”
Owned by the City of Glendale and managed by the Arena Management Group (an
affiliate of Coyotes Hockey, LLC), Glendale Arena is home to the National Hockey
League’s (NHL) Phoenix Coyotes and the National Lacrosse League’s
(NLL) Arizona Sting as well as a multitude of spectacular entertainment events
annually. With two separate concourses on two seating levels, Glendale Arena’s
open concourses are fan-friendly and provide fans with an open view of the
ice. The arena also features an intimate seating bowl that has a “retro” feel
with all the modern amenities. The venue seats 17,799 for Coyotes games, and
both seating levels have been strategically situated to create great hockey
sightlines.
“I'm very pleased that our arena has received this incredible national
recognition from the concert industry,” said Glendale City Manager Ed
Beasley. “This award really exemplifies how well the Glendale Arena is
being received by the entertainment industry's top performers and residents
throughout the Valley.”
“We would like to thank Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs and the Glendale
City Council and staff for their tremendous support in helping make 2004 such
a successful first year for Glendale Arena,” added Ellman. “We
would also like to thank all of our corporate sponsors, season ticket holders
and all of our fans for their loyalty and dedication.”
In the first year of operation, this world-class arena featured some of the
music industry’s top performers including Bette Midler, Prince, Rod Stewart,
Britney Spears, Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson, Kenny Chesney, Sarah McLachlin,
Yanni, Avril Lavigne as well as the Summer Music Mania concert (starring Jessica
Simpson, Nelly, Rooney, Ludacris, 3 Doors Down and Black Eyed Peas), Jimmy
Eat World, Manheim Steamroller and Cher. Glendale Arena also hosted the IBF
