GLENDALE, AZ — Phoenix Coyotes Chairman and Governor Steve Ellman and representatives from Qwest Communications announced today that Qwest has become a Founding Partner of the Phoenix Coyotes and the new Glendale Arena, scheduled to open in December 2003. Qwest becomes the exclusive provider of telecommunications services in the Glendale Arena, including voice, data, and video. In addition, Ellman named Qwest as the preferred provider of telecommunications services for the Westgate development surrounding the arena, a 6.5 million square-foot mixed-use project that The Ellman Companies are developing, which will include retail, entertainment, office, hotel, and residential uses.

"The Glendale Arena and the entire Westgate development are being pre-wired with fiber optics providing the infrastructure for any future need including high-end data users. Every retail and residential unit will be equipped to accommodate all voice, video and data needs upon occupancy."

Located on 223 acres at the intersection of Loop 101 and Glendale Avenue in Glendale, Glendale Arena is a state-of-the-art, 17,653 seat multi-purpose facility that will host the world's best sporting events, concerts, and family entertainment shows. The arena will be equipped with over 89 luxury suites with seating capacity from 12 to 30 guests each. Additionally, the Glendale Arena features a specialized club-seating environment that is limited to approximately 450 seats and is located immediately in front of the Club Lounge.

The arena is anticipated to be the first major sports venue in North America to feature an all-digital (LED) center-hung scoreboard. This feature will amplify and maximize game scores, timing and advertising messages.

The Westgate development will include 1.5 million square feet of mixed-use office space, and over 2 million square feet of mixed retail, including high-end specialty retail, restaurants, and a neighborhood center including grocery. In addition, Westgate will include a Big-Box Power Center, over 840 residential units - including loft condos and high-end apartments, a 20-screen theatre complex, and four hotels with a total of 1100 rooms, and up to 75,000 square feet of convention space.
