GLENDALE, AZ — The skyline of Greater Phoenix begins an extraordinary transformation today, with the construction start of the Westgate City Center, an urban-inspired community, which is one of Arizona's most important real estate projects ever.
In the shadow of the Glendale Arena and new Arizona Cardinals NFL Stadium, The Ellman Companies and partner Jerry Moyes launched Phase 1 of The Village at Westgate City Center, representing 500,000 square feet scheduled to debut in October, 2005, of what will be 6.5 million square feet of master-planned mixed uses.
"Westgate will become the new standard in urban development," explained Steve Ellman, Chairman and CEO of The Ellman Companies. "We launch today with The Village, a remarkable center core entertainment district of extraordinary design. For Westgate, it's the first phase of building what will become a bustling entertainment, dining, shopping, living, and corporate community that will create jobs and economic growth for the entire West Valley."
A 77,000 square foot Loews Cineplex Entertainment 20-screen, 4000-seat cinema anchors the retail and entertainment core of The Village.
The loft office component will be anchored by the relocation of the corporate offices of the Phoenix Coyotes and Arizona Sting, who will become the first professional sports franchises to be headquartered in the West Valley. The Coyotes/Sting offices will include 25,000 square feet for over 80 employees.
PERINI SELECTED AS GENERAL CONTRACTOR
Perini Building Company has been selected as the General Contractor for Phase I.
"Perini was a rock-solid partner for the Coyotes and the City of Glendale during the development of our Glendale Arena," Ellman added. "They have the strength of organization and commitment for this huge undertaking."
Arena Project Manager Ken Schacherbauer will direct the construction of "The Village."
TRAMMELL CROW TO DEVELOP MULTIFAMILY APARTMENTS
Westgate's residential component will include 378 multifamily apartments, on the eastern portion of the 223-acre site, to be developed by Trammell Crow Residential.
