WESTGATE CITY CENTER TO HOST
“FESTIVAL OF TREES” FOR HOLIDAY SEASON
GLENDALE, ARIZONA, Wednesday, November 21, 2007 – For the next month, Westgate City Center, the Valley’s hottest new mixed-use development, is about to get a little colder.
Beginning on Friday, November 30, the sidewalks and streetscapes of Westgate City Center will be transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with Holiday trees, snow days, ice sculpture demonstrations, and much more.
Throughout the development, 40 Holiday trees will be placed, each one signifying a key component of Westgate, from entertainment, retail, and dining, to the WaterDance water feature, to the numerous sponsorships and charitable initiatives undertaken at Westgate. The 9’ tall trees will be spread over the area from WaterDance Plaza (adjacent to the Jobing.com Arena) to the Westgate Fountain Park (immediately south of the AMC Westgate 20 theaters. The trees will be on display beginning on Friday, November 23.
Names such as the “Signature Retail Tree,” the “WaterDance Tree” will represent the different components of the Westgate City Center. The “Operation Santa Claus Tree” and others will represent the numerous charities that have benefited from Westgate during its first year of operation. Additionally, Holiday themes such as Peace, Love, Joy, and Hope will be commemorated with trees in the festival.
Horse & Carriage rides around the streets of Westgate will be available on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as ice sculpting exhibitions held on the WaterDance Plaza. Each Saturday morning, kids of all ages from the Arizona desert can try their hand at building a snowman or lying down and making snow angels, as several tons of snow will be placed on the Plaza.
“We are thrilled at this time of year to create a ‘Westgate Winter Wonderland,’” said Dave Groff, President of Westgate Sports and Entertainment, the development’s programming and sponsorship arm. “Our temperatures are warmer than most of the rest of the country, and this month-long event will provide a chance for children of the Valley to enjoy a slice of what winter and holiday life is like in more northern areas of the US.”
